Chungthang - North Sikkim

Chungthang is a little town on the convergence of the two chief rivers of North Sikkim Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu. The Lachen watercourse from west and stream of Lachung from east meet here and gives formation of Tista which is the most significant river in Sikkim. From Chungthang the road has separated into two, the road all the way through the left leads to Lachen (29 km) and the road leading through the right go to Lachung (23 km).

The valley is supposed to have been sanctified by Guru Rimpoche. This zone is rich in bio diversity with a great variety of plants, orchids and wildlife.
Chungthang is at a distance of 95 kilometers from Gangtok, 23 kilometers from Lachung, about 29 kilometers from Lachen and is primarily a area of the Lepchas.

Chopta Valley - North Sikkim

How to get there:

By Road: Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim is connected by all weather road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the District headquarters within Sikkim.

By Rail:Two nearest railway station are at Siliguri (114 km) and New Jalpaiguri (125 km) stabilizing link to Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.

By Air:Nearest airport is Bagdogra in North Bengal( 124 km).
