Teulada Moraira Beaches

Teulada Moraira is home to some of the most fantastic beaches the Costa Blanca has to offer. As well as soft, gentle, sandy beaches that are ideal for children, Teulada Moraira also has rocky coves and inlets perfect for active snorkelers and scuba divers and an abundance of water-sports for the more active tourist.

Teulada Moraira is on Spain's Costa Blanca and is a stunning town that offers the tourist many of the key ingredients for a great family holiday. From the almond and orange farms in the stunning valleys, to the peaks of the Montgo national park, the scenery and views are breathtaking. From its traditional restaurants to its award wining Moscatel wines and from the fantastic coastal walks to its clean and safe beaches, Teulada Moraira really does live up to its name as the 'Jewel in the Costa Blanca crown'.

The town of Teulada is located six miles from its sister: Moraira. Teulada is the administrative centre of the town and is where the town hall, police station and hospital are located. Moraira is the coastal resort. Thankfully, it has been spared much of the over-development that many other Spanish coastal towns have succumbed to and retains its charm as a trendy, cosmopolitan resort built on its traditional fishing village origins.

The coastal area of Teulada Moraira is home to some of Spain's cleanest beaches. Awarded blue-flag status, they provide the holidaymaker with a wide-range of beach holiday options: family-friendly, sandy beaches, ideal for families with young children, to water-skiing and jet-skiing to wind-surfing and sailing. It is possible to explore each of Teulada Moraira's beaches and leave with a new and exciting holiday experience.

The list below details the beaches along the Teulada Moraira coast. Be sure to try each one and pick a favourite: you will definitely want to go back, time and time again.

La Cala is a small rocky beach, with the most crystal clear waters on the Costa Blanca. Best accessed by boat, although a beautiful walk along the cliff path can also take you to the beach, it is located at the most northerly point of the Teulada Moraira coast. It is an excellent beach for a quite afternoon on a lounger reading your favourite holiday novel.

Moving south, the next beach is at El Portet Moraira. It is a wide and shallow cove with a gentle sloping beach: 50 feet out from the shoreline, the water will just be lapping at your knees. The shallow beach and lack of waves make this a firm favourite for young children. Situated directly behind the beach, is a modern restaurant catering for all tastes. It serves great fresh fish and a wide-range of refreshing, cooling drinks. For the real food fan, El Portet Moraira has a two-star Michelin restaurant: Le Dauphin. It is an absolute must for an early evening meal, sat on the terrace above the beach, enjoying a crisp Chardonnay as you take in the view across the stunning bay while, in the distance, the sun sets dramatically behind the mighty Penon d'Ifach rock. El Portet Moraira is located a five minute drive from the centre of Moraira. With great facilities and ample car-parking, it is an excellent choice for a great day out.

Next along the Teulada Moraira coast is Playa D'Ampolla. One of the four Moraira beaches awarded a blue flag award. In keeping with the blue flag standards, the Playa D'Ampolla is kept exceptionally clean and tidy. It is a golden, sandy beach and is the largest and most popular beach in Teulada Moraira. Families love it for its soft and golden sand, sunbathers love it for its wide and deep expanse and water enthusiasts love it for its array of sporting facilities. Amongst its facilities, it has a great beach-bar, loungers and umbrellas, showers and bathroom facilities and is patrolled by Red Cross lifeguards.

Further along the coast is Platgetes, which comprises two small beaches: one is shallow, with golden sand, whilst the other is rocky with an abundance of small, sea-life swimming in its inlets and coves: great for young children to explore. A promenade links the two beaches and provides excellent photo opportunities. The beaches are equipped with a parking area, a restaurant and a Red Cross platform where a life-guard keeps a safe watch across the beaches.

At the most southerly point of the Teulada Moraira coast is the last beach: L'Andrago. It is a pebble-beach, with large boulders dotted here and there: ideal for laying out a towel, lying back and topping up your tan. The coves and inlets at the edges of the beach are an excellent location to practice your scuba-diving and snorkeling. Famous, locally for being a very quiet beach, it is the perfect location for a quiet afternoon of relaxing, stress-free sunbathing. Additionally, parking is available and a number of small restaurants are just a five-minute walk away.

The Towns Of South Eastern Spain

Almunecar

Almunecar is known as the capital of the Costa Tropical and forms part of the province of Granada. The Costa Tropical is a less well known part of the coastline and is found between the Costa del Sol on the west and the Costa de Almeria to the east.

There are some beautiful beaches along the coastline and a good selection of hotels, villas and apartments. The average temperature here is 20C with around 320 days of sunshine per year.

Almunecar has a Moorish castle, the Castle of San Miguel and there are also several churches and museums which can be visited. Near to the castle is the Loro Sexi Bird Park which has over 1500 birds and nearby the botanical garden, the Parque del Majuelo is home to Europe's largest collection of subtropical plants.

Motril

Motril is the largest town on the Costa Tropical and the second largest town in the province of Granada with over 55,000 inhabitants.

Motril has a busy commercial port as well as a fishing port and a marina. The two main beaches are the Playa Granada and the Playa Poniente. On the coast road to the west of the Playa Poniente is Casa Astrida which is one of the King's residences. A little further along is the popular golf course, Los Moriscos.

The production of sugar cane was the main industry in the town for centuries and there is still a 16th century sugar mill, Casa de Las Palmas.

Salobrena

The old whitewashed town of Salobrena which is built upon a large rock, has steep, narrow streets which are centred around the 10th Century Moorish castle and the town is surrounded by lush sugar cane fields and the last sugar factory in Europe can be found in the village of La Caleta to the west of the town.

Salobrena has been inhabited for over 6000 years and the old town is lovely with great views of the landscape beyond, if you can make the climb to the top of the old town.

Salobrena has lots of bars, restaurants and tapas on offer and is ideally situated just 45 minutes from Granada and little over an hour to the Sierra Nevada mountain range so it is also an ideal location to combine winter sun and skiing.

Mojacar

Mojacar is in the province of Almeria and just 50 minutes drive from Almeria airport. It is an old whitewashed mountain village and only a couple of kilometres from the coast. There is a tourist resort just to the south called Mojacar Playa.

It has over 3000 hours of sunshine per year and has almost no winter season at all. Mojacar has retained most of its original character and is home to a Moorish fortress called El Torreon.

The beaches are the main attraction to visit the area as well as the many other picturesque villages to be visited.

Puerto de Mazarron

Puerto de Mazarron is an attractive holiday resort which has been popular with holidaymakers for many years. Fishing and agriculture are still the most important industries in the area but the economy is boosted each year by the influx of tourists in the summer. The coastal area of Mazarron has some of the loveliest unspoiled beaches in Spain and provides a peaceful environment for those choosing to vacation here. It is also a popular destination for Spanish families in the peak season but is ideal for a quieter holiday out of season.

There is an attractive promenade which gives access to the beaches and there are many bars, restaurants and cafes to try.
